Charles T. Thibodeau, head of Divorce Education Association, his wife, Donna, two association members brought the suit in U.S.
District Court in Minneapolis against the state, the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Hennepin District Court, Judge Stanley D. Kane of that court, County Atty. Gary Flakne and state Atty. Gen. Warren Spannaus.
Thibodeau's suit was filed in response to an earlier suit brought in Hennepin District Court by the bar association. charging that Thibodeau and his group were practicing law illegally. On May 12, Kane decided in favor of the bar association and ordered the Thibodeaus to stop giving out advice on how persons may obtain a divorce while acting as their own attor- neys. L. Mann, 23, 5645 Evergreen Lane, Plymouth. Woman jailed after pleading guilty to forgery Beth S. Kroeger, 24, was sentenced to up to 10 years in prison yesterday after she pleaded guilty to forging one of her mother's checks for $125. Miss Kroeger, 2820 1st Av.
Minneapolis, agreed to plead guilty to the Aug. 5 aggravated forgery charge with the understanding that a second charge, stemming from an alleged attempt on Aug. 25 to fake her own kidnaping, would be dropped. Hennepin District Judge David R. Leslie agreed to dismiss the second charge, attempted theft by deception, and ordered Miss Kroeger imprisoned immediately in the Correctional Institution for Women at Shakopee.
Leslie noted that Miss Kroeger, who allegedly demanded that her mother give her an $800 "ransom" on Aug. 25, had two prior convictions for aggravated forgery and had violated her parole. The six-page pointed out that the fin Thibodeaus have not yet exhausted their appeals at the state level. While the court dismissed the suit, it at the same time allowed the Thibodeaus to add to the suit a charge of "bad-faith prosecution" and conspiracy against the Thibodeaus by those involved in the Hennepin District Court case. The dismissal of the suit nullified the "conspiracy" addition, but the panel noted that the Thibodeaus' amendment request attempted "to set forth extraordinary circ*mstances which would entitle (the Thibodeaus) to injunctive relief." The request failed to state a claim on which relief could be granted, however, "because it alleges no racial or class- based invidious discrimination" by the defendants, the panel held.
THIBODEAU, 33, and his wife organized the Divorce Education Association in 1971. For $100 or less, the organization taught members how to get a divorce without spending money on lawyer's fees. The Thibodeaus had claimed the bar association suit was merely an effort to protect lawyers from competition. The federal suit was assigned to the out-of-state panel after all federal judges in this district disqualified themselves because of membership in the state bar association. The Thibodeaus could not be reached for comment.

8. James Street, 24, Milan, was killed Sunday in an accident on a road east of Correll, Minn. Richard Kittelson, 24, also of MiIan, suffered minor injuries in the one-car crash. The Stone County sheriff's office said it did know which man was driving when the car rolled over. was killed Sunday in a one-car crash on Renville County Rd.
